Graham Souness has claimed that future Tottenham signing Timo Werner is in the same “category” as Liverpool striker Darwin Nunes.
Spurs are one of the most active clubs in the current transfer window and the north Londoners are set to complete their first signing in the coming days.
Transfer pundit Fabrizio Romano provided an update on Werner’s arrival at Tottenham on Monday. He wrote in his offside column: “Timo Werner is expected to be announced as Tottenham’s new signing in the coming days.”
He will complete his medical and then travel to London to sign a loan deal with RB Leipzig.”Werner played for Chelsea in the Premier League, scoring 23 goals in 89 games in all competitions and 10 goals in 56 Premier League games.
The Germany international is sure to face plenty of doubt when he returns to England, with former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan joking about the possibility of completing his upcoming Tottenham signing.”
He is very versatile. He can score with his left foot, with his right foot and with his head.” Jordan joked. TalkSPORT pundit and Liverpool legend Graeme Souness believes Spurs should be worried Werner will hit the ‘ultimate purple spot’ and force Spurs to sign the 27-year-old.”
He needs five chances to score and he had a good season before he came here,” Souness told talkSPORT. “It was difficult for him to score. I would say nothing has changed.
He returned to Leipzig and played eight games this season, scoring two goals.“He’s a sock guy, he’s got a different body. I don’t think he’s playing very well, but he’s the type of player who gets three or four chances every game because he’s quick and gets in the right position.”
He is a player who can score 30 goals one year and five or six the next, so he could have the best purple patch and Spurs should sign him.” “[Darwin] Nunes is in that category of scoring too many chances, but Werner is a young player so that could change. I don’t see any change, but it could be a purple spot. “
