UConn’s Azzi Fudd named NCAA women’s basketball championship Most Outstanding Player
UConn women’s basketball won its 12th NCAA championship in dominant fashion, defeating South Carolina 82-59 on Sunday at the Amalie Arena in Tampa.
UConn senior Azzi Fudd was named the Most Outstanding Player of the National championship game and Final Four after, having scored 24 points in the title game with five rebounds and three steals.
As if winning UConn’s first national title since 2016 wasn’t enough, Fudd also reached a personal milestone with her 1,000th point coming during the championship game.
In UConn’s 85-51 Final Four victory over UCLA, Fudd scored 19 points with an assist.
In her first five games of the NCAA tournament, Fudd averaged 16.2 points per game with a 47% field goal percentage and three steals per game.
It is a perfect finish to a UConn season after years of ups and downs largely due to injuries.
