Fluminense president Mario Wittencourt has revealed Liverpool’s signing of midfielder Andre amid ongoing transfer talks last year.
Speaking to local media, Bittencourt revealed that Liverpool made an initial offer of €30m for Andre but the Brazilian club rejected it as they were determined to keep the player until the end of the Copa Libertadores campaign.
Stop Fluminense won the championship title. Despite interest from Liverpool, the English club’s second bid fell well short of €30 million and was rejected by Fluminense. Bittencourt explained that this decision is in line with his commitment to Andre, who has agreed to stay at the club and awaits a satisfactory offer in the future.
Fluminense are now ready to sell Andre in what is expected to be the biggest sale in history. The club is setting the bar for a potential deal that exceeds 35 million euros. But with the clock ticking and Fluminense seemingly just 24 hours away from completing the sale, doubts are being raised over the viability of a crucial mid-season European bid.
All eyes are now on Liverpool as fans wait to see if the Premier League club will come back with an improved offer to match Fluminense’s valuation of Andre. The situation remains fluid and there remains room for negotiations and a breakthrough in the ongoing transfer saga.
