Jurgen Klopp’s announcement that he’s to leave Liverpool at the end of the season has sent shock waves through the footballing world.
With very few people seeing the news coming, it could have huge ramifications for Liverpool and their players over the coming months. Some such as Andy Robertson have already been tipped to leave, while Virgil van Dijk’s future looks a little in the balance all of a sudden, too.
One player who had looked like he could be on his way even before Klopp’s big news was Mohamed Salah. With interest from Saudi Arabia, Salah’s days at Liverpool could be numbered.
According to The Daily Mail though, the 31-year-old is actually as happy as ever with the Reds.
They claim that ‘sources close to Salah’ report that the Egyptian is ‘loving life’ on Merseyside and suggest that he could sign a new contract.
Interest is said to still be present from Saudi Arabia, but it appears that for now, Klopp’s announcement has not changed much for Mo.
Salah happy at Liverpool
With news of Klopp’s exit still very fresh, Salah probably hasn’t had a chance to think on how it could impact his own decision.
At the moment, it seems inevitable that Liverpool will have to fend off another big bid from the Saudis this summer.
Where they turned it down last year, this time could be different.
A big factor in that will be just how keen Salah himself is to stay. With Klopp going, it becomes even more important to the Reds to ensure their star man doesn’t immediately follow.
As a result, they simply have to offer Salah fresh terms on his contract. If he’s open to that – and recent reports suggest that he could be – then they should reject Saudi approaches.
If Mo indicates that he won’t sign an extension beyond 2025, then Liverpool may have no choice but to sell him on. Should the bid be over £100m once again, then what really can you do.
Obviously, it would be an enormous blow to lose both Klopp and Salah in one go. But it really would have the feel of a fresh start for whoever then comes in.
The new manager would also be armed with an enormous windfall from the Mo sale in which he could reinvest how he saw fit to build his new team.
The preference of every Liverpool fan should be that Salah stays. But this is a complicated situation which will evolve quickly and very soon. Be prepared for anything.
