For WVU to be eligible for a bowl game, the team must finish the season with a winning percentage of .500 or better. To achieve this, WVU must win at least one of its last two games against the University of Central Florida and Texas Tech University.
247Sports projects the Mountaineers to play against the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Armed Forces Bowl at noon or 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas.
Wisconsin is currently 5-5 and 3-4 in the Big 10 after losing to the No. 1-ranked University of Oregon 16-13 Saturday.
ESPN projects the Mountaineers will play in the Independence Bowl against either the University of Washington-Seattle or the University of Louisiana-Lafayette at 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28, at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Washington is 6-5 and 4-4 in the Big 10 and the reigning runner-up in the College Football Playoff National Championship. The team most recently defeated the University of California-Los Angeles 31-19 Friday.
Louisiana is 8-2 and 5-1 in the Sun Belt Conference after losing to South Alabama University 24-22 Saturday. The team currently places first in SBC West standings.
CBS Sports also predicts the Mountaineers will play in the Independence Bowl against the No. 18-ranked United States Military Academy.
Army is 9-0 and 7-0 in the American Athletic Conference after beating the University of North Texas 14-3 Saturday.
College Football Network projects WVU to play East Carolina University in the First Responders Bowl at 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, 2025, at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in University Park, Texas.
East Carolina is 6-4 and 4-2 in the AAC, most recently defeating Tulsa University 38-31 last week.
The Sporting News projects WVU will face Virginia Tech University in the Rate Bowl at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26, at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona.
Virginia Tech is 5-5 and 3-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The team is coming off a bye week and most recently lost to No. 17 Clemson University, 24-14.
Under WVU Football Head Coach Neal Brown, the Mountaineers have played three bowl games. In 2020, the Mountaineers defeated Army in the Liberty Bowl, 24-21. In 2021, the Mountaineers lost to the University of Minnesota in the Rate Bowl, 18-6. In 2023, WVU defeated the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, 30-10.
