Why Liverpool have placed their faith in ‘Andy Robertson 2.0’ to fix injury crisis

 

The Liverpool youngster has been called up and is expected to cover at left-back, but is he a good player?

Liverpool have been hit by injuries at left-back this season, with Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas also missing.

Tsimikas’ broken collarbone could keep him out for a few months, while Robertson’s dislocated shoulder could see him back in late January or early February.

As a result, two versions appeared. Bring in a new left-back or an academy youth player to help fill in for the two defenders while they recover.

The club have decided to recall 21-year-old Owen Beck, who is on loan at Dundee United, despite his relationship with Fulham’s Anthony Robinson, who has been converted to left-back over the past 12 months.

Beck has been with Liverpool since the age of 13 and signed his first professional contract with the club in June 2020, before negotiating a new deal with their senior squad in July 2021 following a successful 2020 under-23 campaign years in the pre-season.

His professional debut came off the bench in a Carabao Cup match at Preston North End in the 2021/22 season. This season, he was loaned to Scottish Premier League side Dundee United, where he had a good season, scoring 2 goals and assisting 7 times in 20 appearances in league and cup competitions.

It’s no secret that he’s following in the footsteps of Robertson, who spent time at the same club and has shown a similar style of play in Major League Soccer to what he’s exhibited so far in his career.

Despite making nine appearances for Bolton during a short loan spell last season. His characteristic is that he is an energetic defender with an eye for advancement and attack.

This is reflected in their impressive average of two assists per game in the Scottish Premiership. He also created three good chances for himself.

His defense also averaged 2.9 tackles, 2.5 clearances and 4.9 rebounds while winning 57% of ground duels per game. Fifteen of those have come in three games against the division’s top two teams, Celtic and Rangers.
