Will Liverpool look to bring in a midfielder in January despite Curtis Jones, Ryan Gravenberch displays? Transfer expert view

Despite Curtis Jones’ impressive display against Chelsea, Liverpool is likely to continue pursuing another midfielder, potentially Martin Zubimendi, in the January or summer transfer window, according to Reds expert David Lynch.

Jones’ standout performance in the 1-0 win over Chelsea, where he scored the winner and won a penalty, has sparked debate about the need for additional midfield reinforcements. However, Lynch suggests that manager Arne Slot still desires another trusted option in midfield.

“I think Slot would like another one in there who he kind of trusts as an option,” Lynch revealed in an interview with Sports Mole. “You don’t want to get yourself into a situation where you’re tempting injuries by not having enough rotation in those positions.”

Lynch’s comments come amid speculation surrounding Wataru Endo’s role in the team, with the Japanese midfielder reportedly not heavily favored by Slot. Gravenberch has consistently started at the base of midfield, while Jones has operated in more advanced positions.

The expert argued that Gravenberch will require support as the season progresses, citing the recent Carabao Cup match against West Ham, where Slot was forced to rest key midfielders Mac Allister, Gravenberch, and Szoboszlai.

“Liverpool probably need another one in there just because…they desperately needed to rest that first three,” Lynch said. “OK, you can throw Endo in there, who the manager doesn’t really trust. Jones is great to bring in, absolutely happy to do that. But he’s putting in Endo, who he doesn’t massively trust.”

As Liverpool maintains its top spot in the Premier League table, the need for midfield reinforcements remains a topic of discussion. Zubimendi, a reported target, could potentially fill this gap.
