The towering center-back, who scored in the impressive 2-0 win against Manchester United, expressed a deep sense of belonging with the Gunners. “Yeah of course, I feel at home,” Saliba told Mirror Football. “I signed for the club five years ago but it’s only my third season and I’m enjoying everything – the players, the staff and the fans. I feel at home so of course, why not?”

Not only is Saliba keen on sticking around, but he’s also bullish about Arsenal’s chances to overcome Liverpool in the race for the Premier League title. Despite being seven points adrift, his goal during Wednesday’s match has him believing in the squad’s potential.

“Everything is possible. The season is very long and we’ve experienced that in the past two years. We just have to focus on ourselves, we are still only in December so there are still a lot of things that can happen.”

With an outstanding defensive partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes, Saliba is determined to bring home silverware. Speaking about his Brazilian teammate, who is aiming for a comeback against Fulham, he said: “Since the day I first played with him, I’ve enjoyed every game. He’s a massive, massive defender that is so good in every aspect.

“But if we want to be all-time great defenders, where everyone remembers us, we have to win some trophies. We haven’t done it yet but we will give everything to achieve that.”

Arsenal’s next match is on Sunday against Fulham. The Gunners will move within four points of Liverpool in the title race with a victory at Craven Cottage. Liverpool is not in action this weekend after Saturday’s game against Everton was postponed due to bad weather.

Saliba was speaking to Mirror Football alongside Arsenal goalkeeper Neto during a visit to Ashmount Primary School in Islington.
