Liverpool legend left confused by Darwin Nunez’s ‘insane’ Brentford goal

Liverpool legend Michael Owen believes Darwin Nunez’s goal against Brentford was “insane,” but hopes the Uruguayan opts for a “more productive way to score” in the future.

Nunez, 24, put Liverpool 1-0 up in the 35th minute with a beautiful dinked finish over Mark Flekken after a neat headed assist from Diogo Jota.

Unfortunately for Liverpool fans, Nunez was withdrawn at half-time, with fears that he may not be unavailable to face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final next weekend.

However, Jurgen Klopp is hopeful that Nunez will be able to play after stating that his substitution was simply a precaution.

While Nunez only played 45 minutes against Thomas Frank’s side, Owen was impressed by his composure when played through on goal. He wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: “That finish from Darwin Nunez yesterday was insane. I can’t stop watching it.

“And I can’t begin to explain how difficult a skill that is. Moving at pace, the ball running away from you, being inside the box with no room for error. Incredible.

“BUT, it is also further proof that if he is to get closer to becoming the great player many people think he can be, he has to adapt his way of thinking. I mean, to even consider that finish is madness.

“It’s a one in ten, two in ten finish at best. Learning to slot, dink or go round the goalkeeper is a far more productive way to score and will increase his chances to four or five in 10, thus massively increasing his end return.

“I’m really not trying to rain on his parade as that goal was pure class. But I’d rather see it when Liverpool are 3-0 up, not at 0-0.”

Nunez now has nine goals and seven assists in 24 Premier League appearances so far this season, while that tally increases to 13 goals and 11 assists in all competitions.
