Arsenal were clowned for their lack of European success by Liverpool fans – despite booking their place into the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
The Gunners will take their place in the final eight of the competition for the first time in 14 years after defeating Porto 4-2 on penalties in a nervy clash at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday (March 12).
David Raya was the hero of the shoot-out, having saved two penalties as Arsenal’s thrilling victory was celebrated by TNT Sports’ who created a graphic for the North London club on X (formerly Twitter).
The graphic has garnered 7.5million views on the social media platform but perhaps not for the reason most will believe. Having taken a closer eye at the graphic that featured Bukayo Saka, Mikel Arteta, Martin Odegaard, and Gabriel Jesus, eagled-eyed Liverpool noticed a hilarious addition behind Gabriel Martinelli.
Tucked in behind the Brazilian winger was a Champions League trophy being hoisted – but by Jurgen Klopp following Liverpool’s 2019 triumph over Tottenham Hotspur – the Premier League giants’ sixth European Cup win.

Given Arsenal in contrast have never won a Champions League trophy, the decision to use a photo of the Liverpool boss lifting the trophy was mocked heavily by Reds’ fans, with one X user writing: “If they win it they probably photoshop our parade and pass it off as theirs.” Another branded it: “So embarrassing.”
The jokes were seemingly never-ending, with another fan commenting: “Using a pic of Liverpool lifting the trophy… now that’s a rough one”. Gunners boss Mikel Arteta said his side and its fans are creating an “unbelievable energy” as they move one step closer to realising their European dream. Following the win, he said: “We really had to dig in to find the magic moment at the end.
