Leon Bailey has opened the door to a top Premier League club after his impressive campaign with Aston Villa. Bailey, 26, has found the net 12 times for Villa this season, providing a further 11 assists.
It has been his best season to date in the Premier League following his arrival from Bayer Leverkusen in 2021. Before he made the move to Villa Park, Bailey was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, with Arsenal and Chelsea all said to be interested.
The Jamaica international told German magazine Kicker that there was ‘concrete interest’ from those clubs, although bids never materialized. He has now suggested he would be keen on one day playing for one of the ‘big six’ in England, despite signing a new deal only last month
On the Let’s Be Honest Podcast, Bailey said: “I’ve been really focused on being at Aston Villa and finishing the season strong. It has been one of the best seasons in my career.
“You never know in football, but I am comfortable, happy where I am at. I focus on one thing at a time. I want to continue contributing. Who knows what happens in the future. You have big teams in England, they call themselves the big six. The Arsenals and the Chelseas.
“It has always been my dream to play in the Premier League and I am right now. Who wouldn’t want to go to a massive team? Especially coming out of Jamaica, do you know how big that is for the country? Especially being who I am as well.
“It would shine more light and that has been my focus whenever overseas. It is to use my platform to be able to shine light on the country and the young talents. It’s difficult for us Jamaicans to even make it to Europe.”
Bailey’s admission comes as Liverpool’s new sporting director Richard Hughes faces a decision over Mohamed Salah’s future. The Egyptian is out of contract at the end of next summer, when he will turn 33.
