Liverpool is back in action this weekend following the conclusion of the international break and will have the opportunity to return to the top of the Premier League table. The first fixture back will be Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday.
The Reds currently sit level on points with Arsenal at the top of the table, as Manchester City follow closely in third. There is a one-point gap separating Pep Guardiola’s side from the top two, with the Gunners and City set to face each other after Liverpool play Brighton.
A win would see Jürgen Klopp’s side leap-frog Arsenal in the table for the time being, which could then apply a huge deal of pressure on Mikel Arteta’s side heading into an already monumental clash against last season’s treble winners. Either way, this weekend’s round of fixtures will play a massive part in the Premier League title race, with Liverpool also eager to get back to winning ways after suffering FA Cup disappointment to Manchester United in the last outing.
Defender Andy Robertson, who only recently returned from a shoulder injury he picked up on Scotland duty in 2023, was forced off in the first half during the 1-0 loss to Conor Bradley’s Northern Ireland on Tuesday evening.
The 30-year-old fullback will now undergo scans to assess the extent of the injury, with Scotland boss Steve Clarke outlining how he ‘hoped’ he would be back soon. Liverpool had previously leaned on the talents of Joe Gomez when both Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas were out injured, although the latter has since returned from a collarbone injury.
