Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo have dropped an early team news hint ahead of Liverpool’s clash against Brighton. Jurgen Klopp’s side welcome the Seagulls to Anfield on Sunday afternoon as either side hopes to climb the Premier League table.
The Reds head into the clash following a disappointing defeat to Manchester United in the FA Cup quarter-final before the international break. Liverpool were unbeaten in each of their previous nine games across all competitions, so they’ll be determined to return to winning ways this weekend.
With Arsenal and Manchester City locking horns at the Etihad Stadium in the later kick-off, the Reds have a brilliant opportunity to reclaim the lead in the title race. Nevertheless, Szoboszlai and Gakpo have both posted pre-match graphic previews of the Brighton clash to their respective Instagram stories.
Historically, this suggests they will be involved in some capacity. Ryan Gravenberch has also done the same, indicating that he too could feature. Speaking to reporters ahead of the Seagulls meeting, Klopp issued injury updates on Curtis Jones, Ibrahim Konate, Andy Robertson and Darwin Nunez.
While they have each been nursing their respective knocks lately, the Liverpool boss seemed to reluctant to rule any of them out. He said: “Curtis is in training. Ibou was extra rest day, nothing else. Robbo we will take it day by day. He won’t train today but it’s not as bad. That’s fine.
“The other boys from next week on step by step they will join parts of team training. We will see what we do with that. They aren’t too far away. They are all making their steps. It’s a positive. Darwin did his rehab during the week, trained first day partially and since then in full training.”
Then, when quizzed on the challenge of playing Brighton, Klopp added: “We go for three points, that is clear. But we know how difficult it is against Brighton. Roberto is doing an incredible job there. It’s a different game against Brighton. We have improved over the 18 months since we played them.
“The first game I think we were the first opponent since Roberto [De Zerbi] arrived and had no idea what to expect. It was quite impressive how quick he got the team in his way. Since then it only got better. We need a really, really good atmosphere and understanding of the game as well.
“It’s about having possession, we need to have more possession than in recent games against them. It’s not a normal pressing game, it goes against our rhythm so we have to break their rhythm. It will be super interesting. I am really looking forward to it.
“This part of the season is where we have brought ourselves in a position to fight for everything. If you’d have told me last summer that we’d be here now alongside Man City and Arsenal I’d have signed the contract straight away. No more international duties so that means everyone can focus on club football.”
With that being said, Klopp will be relying on the likes of Szoboszlai and Gakpo to step up as the title race builds a head of steam. While a few players have posted pre-match previews of the Brighton fixture to their Instagram stories, it does not necessarily mean they will all start.
