Liverpool moved one step closer to becoming Premier League champions on Thursday evening after earning a 3-1 win over Sheffield United.
The Reds successfully maintained their two-point two lead over Arsenal at the top of the table and remain three clear of Manchester City with eight games to play.
Jurgen Klopp’s side now find themselves in the thick of the run-in and are about to take part in their toughest remaining fixture on the calendar: an away trip to Manchester United.
Looking ahead to this seismic showdown, three Liverpool supporters have shared their views as part of a weekly ECHO fan column.
We never make it easy for ourselves, do we? But after the emotional rollercoaster of Thursday night against Sheffield United, would you have it any other way? Maybe, yes, but Mac Allister’s rocket into the top right of the net reminded every single red inside Anfield they’re alive and we’re now eight games away from giving Jurgen Klopp the send-off he deserves.
It was painfully hard to keep a level of complacency at bay going into the match and the horrible moment of an equaliser was always lingering. I’d begun to entertain some seriously dark thoughts of what dropped points might mean, but then up stepped our Argentinian World Cup winner when it mattered most of all. Even before giving us the lead, Mac Allister had been magnificent all over the pitch, chipping in with some vital defending.
After a slow start to life at Anfield, it’s becoming more apparent with each passing week just what a bargain the Argentinian was. He exudes class and provides the goals we’ve been missing from midfield in seasons gone by. I’m immensely proud of these Reds whatever happens regarding the trophy haul come May, but my god Mac Allister will be a man who has given everything. Most exciting of all is he’s only just getting started.
