Liverpool are looking for Jurgen Klopp’s successor and former player Paul Ince believes there is already a new key man at the helm making the big decisions at Anfield
The German chief is packing his bags at the end of the season having taken charge in 2015. Fenway Sports Group confirmed the return of Michael Edwards as chief executive of football last month.
Edwards oversaw the most successful period in Liverpool’s recent history, assembling the squad that won the Premier League and Champions League in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
He quit Anfield in 2022 but a deal was struck to bring him back to the club – and Paul Ince believes he is now the key man behind the scenes.
“We can all go on about how great Klopp is – but Edwards had a lot to do with that success,” said Ince.
“I think it’s a good move from Liverpool. His credentials are fantastic and with Klopp going now he’s going to be the kingmaker. He’ll have a massive say in who is the next manager and it’s going to be a huge decision for him.”

Ince believes that Liverpool’s young guns can give Jurgen Klopp a perfect send off.
After a disappointing campaign last term, the Reds still remain firmly in title contention this time round.
Ince reckons the club’s crop of impressive young stars, who helped overcome Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final, can help push on Liverpool in their battle for Premier League glory.
“The title is going to go down to the wire and the game at Old Trafford is a tough one,” said Ince, who played 81 games for Liverpool and 281 for Manchester United.
“There’s a lot of difficult games left and lots of points to play for. It’s great in Klopp’s last year that there’s still so much on the line.
