‘No bias’ – Daniel Sturridge makes title prediction as Liverpool battles Arsenal and Man City

Liverpool can return to the top of the Premier League with victory over Manchester United on Sunday. The Reds saw title rivals Arsenal and Manchester City pick up three points on Saturday against Brighton and Crystal Palace respectively.

Arsenal now leads the way again and has a better goal difference, with Mikel Arteta’s side picking up another clean sheet. Daniel Sturridge has now offered his prediction on the title race, with the season now in its final two months.

He came through the ranks at City and then spent seven years at Anfield, helping Liverpool win the Champions League under Jürgen Klopp in 2019.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s match at Old Trafford, Sturridge told NBC Sports: “Everyone has got a bit shaky right now because you can’t be sure who’s going to win the title. Everyone knows what’s at stake and all three are in their groove.

“Man City’s experience will play a big part but at the same time Arsenal is hungry, they want it. It would be a first title for most of these players so they’re hungry and believe they can do it after what happened last season.

“Liverpool has recently won the Premier League but want to do it again in Jürgen’s last season. So the intangibles are there for each team really. Man City is playing for history but there’s so much at stake for the other two as well.

Sturridge was then pressed for his prediction, before adding: “I’m going to go with Liverpool. It’s not bias! That’s just what my gut is saying right now.”

Following his side’s win at Brighton, Arsenal boss Arteta was asked about the title challenge last year that fell apart in the final months of the season. We are older and you can tell, especially with me,” Arteta told Sky Sports.

“We went through a lot of moments together and you build within the team. We signed some tremendous players as well but it is a good moment because the squad is healthy and the momentum and the energy around the place is good. We have been through it already and I think that helps.”

Liverpool.com says: It is going to be a nervy run-in but Liverpool has put itself in a great position to go on and win the title. City does have the experience but Liverpool has been here before too and has the extra motivation in Klopp’s final season in charge. Sturridge played for both clubs so will not be biased either way. Arsenal is of course looking very dangerous right now, too.
