Liverpool latest news: The Reds could welcome back four players to training this week. Sporting CP boss Rúben Amorim reportedly has an agreement in place.

 

Liverpool remains second in the Premier League table after its thrilling 2-2 draw with Manchester United on Sunday. The Reds wasted a host of chances, particularly in the first half, at Old Trafford but needed a late Mohamed Salah penalty to claim a point.

The draw ultimately means Liverpool’s title fate is no longer in its own hands, with Arsenal now ahead on goal difference. Manchester City is currently in third, just a point behind.

Before Premier League matters resume with the visit of Crystal Palace on Sunday, Liverpool is back in European competition this week as Atalanta makes the trip to Anfield.

 

The Serie A side will be hopeful of causing an upset in the Europa League, although Liverpool remains the favorite to go on and win that competition. That would mean Jürgen Klopp’s final match in charge is the final in Dublin on May 22.

Injury latest including Jota boost

Liverpool is set to be handed a welcome injury boost with four players set to return to training this week. Jürgen Klopp’s squad has been ravaged by injury for much of the season but his options will be boosted for the run-in.

Diogo Jota and Trent Alexander-Arnold have both been sidelined since mid-February with knee problems but are expected to link up with the rest of the squad at the AXA Training Centre. There is also some good news regarding Stefan Bajčetić after a nightmare campaign with injuries.

 

He has been with the Under-21s this week but is expected to return to the first-team fold while Alisson has also stepped up his comeback after his hamstring troubles.

Amorim has ‘agreement’ in place

Sporting CP boss Rúben Amorim remains the favorite to take over at Liverpool this summer. The search for Jürgen Klopp’s successor remains ongoing with the German now into the final months of his tenure.

There has been a lot of speculation about Amorim’s release clause with Sporting, who is currently top of the Portuguese league table and on course to win the title. There have been varying reports over how much clubs will need to pay to land the 39-year-old.

 

Barcelona and Chelsea are both thought to be considering a move for Amorim but he reportedly has a verbal agreement in place with Sporting, which could save Liverpool millions this summer.
