Javier Mascherano has urged Luis Diaz to reject transfer overtures from elsewhere and remain at Liverpool.
Diaz has been a success since his shock £50m move from Porto in January 2022. The Colombian has scored 24 goals and created a further 10 in 90 appearances for the Reds.
The 27-year-old signed a five-year contract but a report emerged this week claiming that he would now like to put pen to paper on a new deal. That came on the back of another report stating that Paris Saint-German – who are finally set to lose Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid – and Barcelona are keen on signing the Reds winger.
Diaz, who shares an agent, Raul Costa, with Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim, who is the running to replace Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager this summer, has not spoken about his future. But Mascherano, who left the Reds for Barcelona in 2010, believes he should stay at Anfield.
“He is a great player, very decisive especially when it comes to playing in one-on-one duels. The truth is that I think he has arrived at a team that fits him just right,” Mascherano told Antena 2.
