The Reds, currently top of the Premier League and still challenging on four fronts this season, knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup last night.
Nobody could have predicted that Jurgen Klopp would have such an incredible start to the season at Liverpool 2.0. But Klopp’s new side have been excellent so far.
This is especially true when you put the Reds’ performance into context. There were no problems this season. Liverpool had to deal with controversial VAR decisions, a chaotic end to the transfer window and three games in between.
Meanwhile, Klopp has also dealt with a number of injury problems that have forced him to promote younger players and move players around. One of them was Joe Gomez.Joe Gomez on Klopp’s callGomez has been Liverpool’s best player this season.
He played as a centre-back and right-back and also provided cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold. In addition, he recently had to switch to left-back due to injuries to Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas.
It was a change that Gomez himself recognized. The Liverpool ECHO reports that Gomez has spoken about transitioning into a new role. “Playing as a quarterback is one thing. It was a difficult adjustment,” Gomez said.
“There are small, nuanced differences that might not be visible, like the way I handle the ball, but I’ll just say this: the people at the club know me now and they know I’ll give it my all.
“Despite the challenge, Gomez failed to show it on the field. He has been fantastic so far this season and has performed very well at left back as well. Last night was a perfect example of that. Gomes completely removed Bukayo Saka’s influence from the game.
