Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams pumped up the crowd inside Ford Field after scoring a touchdown on a trick play. On first down and 10-yards to go, Williams took an end-around 61-yard to the house to bring the game to 24-21.
After reaching the endzone, Williams decided to pay homage to Detroit native and comedian Keegan-Michael Key and his “Three pumps” celebration. Williams did two pumps in the endzone but was later stopped by Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs.
The celebration is a reference to Key’s sketch-comedy show Key & Peele, where the character Hingle McCringleberry, played by Key, scores a touchdown and does three pumps with his pelvis. However, in the NFL, three pumps has been called excessive and illegal, and when done in years past, has cost players a hefty fine.
