The January transfer window is here and there are areas Liverpool need to strengthen.
Here are the three positions
Liverpool sometimes make big moves in the January transfer window.
The Reds brought in Virgil van Dijk and sold Philippe Coutinho in 2018. We also saw the arrival of Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo in the winter transfer window, while 2020 left Liverpool disappointed as they failed to strengthen enough at centre-back despite an injury crisis.
This time the feelings are not as strong. There is no particularly strong bond with the players and no major gaps within the squad.
However, there are areas where Liverpool can improve. I chose the three most likely.
Centre Back
Liverpool should finally signed a centre-back. If no one comes this month, everyone can expect some movement in the summer. It’s the fact that Virgil van Dijk is now 30 and Joel Matip is out of contract and injured this year.
Without Jarell Quansah, a rookie is almost certain to arrive in January. He impressed everyone with his performance and was good enough to play his role for the rest of the season. However, Liverpool can make a move if they have the ‘right’ player now rather than this summer.
Reds are keen to sign Goncalo Inacio and demand for him could soon increase.
Holding Midfielder
Liverpool are understood to be eyeing a new midfielder in January after missing out on their main target last summer. Wataru Endo came in as a stopgap, but there was a feeling that the winter would provide an opportunity to sign a “better” player. Endo has since proven to be a fantastic signing, establishing himself as a key part of the first XI.
It remains to be seen whether his efforts will be enough to make him abandon the alternative plans. right wing
Liverpool currently lack a true right winger.
Mohamed Salah leaves for Egypt for the AFCON, which leaves little time at Anfield. None of the strikers are naturals on that side and all prefer to play on the left. Harvey Elliott could take over the role, but in a very different way.
He is more of a midfielder than a winger. So the right player could tempt Liverpool as this is a role he will have to fill at some point. After all, Salah isn’t getting any younger, and the Michael Olise story may not be all that surprising.
