Following their 91-83 win over the Missouri Tigers, the Kentucky Wildcats have clinched the 6-seed in the 2025 SEC Tournament. That means they’ll get a single bye before playing in Thursday’s second-round action, and it’ll be a late one.
Kentucky’s first SEC Tournament game of the Mark Pope era will begin at approximately 9:30 PM ET (more likely closer to 10 PM) vs. the winner of Wednesday’s Georgia Bulldogs vs. Oklahoma Sooners matchup.
With a win, Kentucky would play the 3-seeded Alabama Crimson Tide on Friday at the same time. That means Kentucky could have back-to-back revenge chances vs. Georgia and Alabama, who combined to go 3-0 vs. the Cats in the regular season
Heading into the regular-season finale, Kentucky was in line to be anywhere from the 5 to the 8-seed in the league tournament, which takes place in Nashville, Tennessee, at Bridgestone Arena.
A loss automatically clinched Kentucky into the 8-seed, while a win would have gotten them in the 5-to-7-seed range, depending on the outcome of the Florida vs. Ole Miss and LSU vs. Texas A&M games.
The win over Mizzou briefly put the Cats in line for the 7-seed. Kentucky then got some help with Ole Miss losing to Florida to move up to the 6-seed.
From there, an LSU win would have given Kentucky a 5-seed. However, the Tigers were unable to take down Texas A&M, so Kentucky got the 6-seed.
