4-star high school wing Kevin Thomas commits to UNC men’s basketball

Former LSU commitment and 4-star wing Kevin Thomas committed to North Carolina men’s basketball on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-6 small forward announced his decision following his visit to Chapel Hill on the same day. Thomas won two Florida Class 1A state titles at Sagemont Prep in Weston, Fla., including one with UNC transfer commit Matt Able for the 2024-25 season. Thomas played 20 games at Monteverde Academy last season, where he averaged 15.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.0 steals per game.

Thomas’ decision comes after his decommitment from LSU in March, after the Tigers fired head coach Matt McMahon.

At the time of his LSU signing in November, McMahon praised Thomas’ explosive perimeter scoring. He netted 60 3-pointers over 20 games last season.

As the No. 94 prospect in the 2026 high school class, per the Rivals Industry Ranking, he was invited to the USA Basketball Men’s U18 National Team training camp in Colorado Springs. He is the fourth high school commitment to join head coach Michael Malone’s 2026-27 roster, in addition to forward Maximo Adams, guard Malloy Smith and center Sayon Keita.
