CJ Rosser, the consensus No. 1-ranked prospect in the 2027 basketball recruiting class, made an unofficial visit to Chapel Hill this past Wednesday, and the photos he posted to Instagram on Saturday night had Tar Heel fans buzzing.
The 6-foot-9 forward from Southeastern Prep in Orlando (and a Rocky Mount, NC native) suited up in both sets of UNC uniforms for a photo shoot on campus, with current Tar Heels and fellow recruits flooding the comments. It was Rosser’s second unofficial visit to Chapel Hill overall — his first came last December under the previous staff — and his first with head coach Michael Malone at the helm.
The relationship between Rosser and UNC goes back to March 2025, when the Tar Heels were among the first power programs to extend an offer. Malone wasted no time reaffirming that interest after being hired, quickly reoffering the in-state star as one of his top recruiting priorities.
Rosser holds offers from a who’s-who of blue bloods — Kentucky, Arkansas, Louisville, Michigan, and others — and has taken visits to Duke, NC State, Kentucky, and Louisville in recent months, so landing him would be a major statement for the new era of Carolina basketball.
A USA Basketball gold medalist at the 2025 FIBA U16 AmeriCup, Rosser is averaging nearly 20 points and 7.5 rebounds per game at the prep level and models his game after Kevin Durant and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
