3 REALISTIC BYRON BUXTON DEALS THAT COULD SHAKE UP THE BRAVES, PHILLIES, AND CARDINALS

The Minnesota Twins aren’t actively shopping Byron Buxton, but if they decide to capitalize on his peak trade value before the MLB trade deadline, several contenders could line up with compelling offers. While a trade remains unlikely because Buxton owns a full no-trade clause and has repeatedly expressed his desire to stay in Minnesota, baseball’s unpredictable deadline season has taught fans to never say never.

At 32 years old, Buxton is enjoying one of the healthiest and most productive stretches of his career. His elite defense, game-changing speed, and middle-of-the-order power make him one of the most impactful outfielders in baseball when healthy. With the Twins hovering below .500 and facing difficult long-term decisions, moving Buxton could accelerate a retool while bringing back premium young talent.

If Minnesota were to entertain offers, these three National League contenders stand out as the most logical landing spots.

ATLANTA BRAVES BRINGING THE HOMETOWN STAR HOME

Few destinations make more sense than Atlanta. Buxton is a Georgia native, making the Braves one of the rare teams that could potentially convince him to waive his no-trade protection.

Atlanta’s outfield has lacked consistency following Jurickson Profar’s suspension and injuries throughout the roster. Adding a player of Buxton’s caliber would immediately strengthen both the offense and defense while giving the Braves another dynamic weapon for a postseason push.

A realistic package could feature right-handed pitcher Hurston Waldrep, one of Atlanta’s top young arms who already has major-league experience. Minnesota would also receive fast-rising outfield prospect Eric Hartman, whose impressive combination of power and speed has significantly boosted his value this season after producing 20 home runs and 30 stolen bases at High-A.

The deal could be completed with Owen Murphy, another talented pitching prospect who has steadily rebuilt his value following Tommy John surgery. Murphy has been pitching well at Triple-A and could contribute to Minnesota’s rotation in the near future.

For Atlanta, surrendering three quality prospects is a substantial investment. However, Buxton remains under team control for two additional seasons on a very manageable contract, making the acquisition worthwhile for a franchise focused on maximizing its championship window.

PHILLIES GO ALL-IN FOR THEIR MISSING PIECE

The Philadelphia Phillies arguably have the greatest need for an impact right-handed outfielder. Their lineup has lacked consistent power from the right side, and the loss of Adolis García has only increased the urgency to add another dangerous bat.

With an aging core led by veteran stars, Philadelphia understands that opportunities to compete for a World Series cannot be taken for granted. That reality could push the front office toward an aggressive deadline move.

A potential package begins with Andrew Painter. Although the prized pitching prospect struggled during his first taste of the majors, his ceiling remains extremely high, and many evaluators still believe he can develop into a frontline starter.

The Twins could also receive Gage Wood, another highly regarded young pitcher with significant upside, along with infielder Aroon Escobar. While Escobar has experienced a quieter season, his talent continues to intrigue scouts, making him an attractive developmental piece.

This proposal would undoubtedly be expensive for Philadelphia, but acquiring Buxton would address one of the team’s biggest weaknesses without requiring the Phillies to part with elite prospect Aidan Miller. In return, Minnesota would receive multiple young players capable of contributing for years to come.

CARDINALS EMERGE AS A SURPRISE CONTENDER

The St. Louis Cardinals may not be the first team mentioned in Buxton rumors, but they could quietly become one of the strongest contenders if Minnesota opens trade discussions.

Despite modest preseason expectations, the Cardinals have remained firmly in the National League playoff race. Rather than chasing short-term rental players, acquiring Buxton would provide an elite talent under contract beyond this season, giving St. Louis immediate and long-term value.

Buxton would slot into the Cardinals’ lineup alongside exciting young hitters such as J.J. Wetherholt, Alec Burleson, and Jordan Walker, dramatically improving both their offense and outfield defense.

To complete such a deal, St. Louis would likely have to part with three of its better prospects.

The package could include switch-pitching prospect Jurrangelo Cijntje, whose tremendous athletic ability continues to generate excitement despite inconsistent results in Double-A. Catching prospect Leo Bernal would also interest Minnesota, especially if the organization begins reshaping its roster for the future.

Rounding out the proposal is left-handed pitcher Quinn Mathews. Although command issues have slowed his progress, Mathews still possesses the talent to become an effective major-league starter if he refines his control.

This would represent a significant investment from St. Louis, but acquiring one of baseball’s premier two-way outfielders could elevate the Cardinals from playoff hopeful to legitimate championship contender.

WOULD THE TWINS ACTUALLY MOVE BUXTON?

For now, the odds remain against a Byron Buxton trade. Minnesota is still within striking distance of a postseason berth, and both the organization and Buxton have consistently expressed a desire to continue their long-standing partnership.

Still, baseball’s trade deadline has a way of producing unexpected blockbuster deals.

Should the Twins decide that now is the ideal time to maximize Buxton’s value, the Braves, Phillies, and Cardinals each possess the prospect capital to make a serious offer. Every proposed package gives Minnesota young, controllable talent while providing a contender with one of the game’s most electrifying players for multiple postseason runs.

If Buxton ever becomes available, expect these three National League clubs to be among the first teams making the call.
