Milan Momcilovic’s Stunning $6 Million NIL Deal Makes Kentucky Star the No. 2 Highest-Paid Athlete in College Sports

The name Milan Momcilovic continues to dominate headlines, and this time it has nothing to do with a game-winning shot or a record-breaking performance on the court. Instead, the Kentucky forward has reached a new milestone in the ever-changing world of college athletics. According to On3’s updated NIL Valuation rankings, Momcilovic now ranks as the No. 2 highest-valued athlete in all of college sports, making him one of the biggest beneficiaries of the Name, Image, and Likeness era.

On3 recently overhauled its NIL valuation system to better reflect the true market value of college athletes. Beginning July 1, 2026, the company shifted away from an algorithm-based approach and instead began using verified contracts, confirmed deals, and active market data. The updated methodology provides a more accurate picture of what the nation’s biggest stars are actually earning through NIL opportunities.

Under the new rankings, only Miami quarterback Darian Mensah, who holds a confirmed NIL deal worth $6.5 million, sits ahead of Momcilovic. The Kentucky standout is tied with Louisville center Flory Bidunga, as both players have confirmed NIL agreements worth $6 million. The rankings demonstrate just how valuable elite college basketball players have become in today’s competitive NIL landscape.

Momcilovic’s rise to the top of the NIL rankings reflects the confidence Kentucky has placed in him after securing one of the most coveted transfers of the offseason. His arrival in Lexington generated national attention, and his confirmed NIL valuation only reinforces the belief that he will be one of the biggest stars in college basketball during the 2026-27 season.

The journey to Kentucky was anything but ordinary. After initially declaring for the NBA Draft, many believed Momcilovic would begin his professional career. However, he ultimately withdrew from the draft and entered the transfer portal, instantly becoming the most sought-after player still available. Programs across the country monitored the situation, but the recruiting battle eventually narrowed to Kentucky and Louisville.

According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Kentucky ultimately won that battle by convincing Momcilovic that Lexington was the ideal place to continue his development while competing for championships. His decision immediately elevated expectations surrounding Mark Pope’s roster, giving the Wildcats one of the nation’s premier offensive weapons heading into the new season.

Momcilovic earned that reputation through an outstanding campaign at Iowa State. Last season, the 6-foot-8 forward averaged 16.9 points per game while shooting an incredible 48.7 percent from three-point range, the highest percentage in NCAA Division I. His combination of size, shooting ability, and offensive versatility made him one of the most efficient scorers in college basketball and one of the most attractive players in the transfer portal.

His ability to stretch the floor perfectly fits Kentucky’s offensive philosophy under Mark Pope. Defenders are forced to respect his shooting range, opening driving lanes for teammates and creating matchup problems for opposing defenses. Beyond his scoring, Momcilovic’s basketball IQ and experience should provide valuable leadership for a Wildcats team with championship aspirations.

The updated NIL rankings also highlight the growing financial strength of college basketball. Six basketball players appear in the top ten overall NIL valuations, proving the sport is becoming increasingly competitive with college football when it comes to attracting lucrative endorsement deals and collective support. As NIL continues to evolve, elite basketball talent is commanding record-breaking financial opportunities.

Kentucky’s presence on the list extends far beyond Momcilovic. Point guard Zoom Diallo is among a group of players with confirmed NIL deals worth $4 million, placing him just outside the top ten nationally. His ranking reflects the excitement surrounding his arrival in Lexington and the expectations that he will become one of the SEC’s premier guards.

The Wildcats also placed Alex Wilkins in the NIL 100 with a confirmed valuation of $2.2 million. Meanwhile, quarterback Kenny Minchey and offensive tackle Lance Heard each hold confirmed NIL deals worth $2 million, demonstrating that Kentucky’s commitment to supporting elite athletes extends across multiple sports, not just basketball.

Overall, Kentucky boasts five athletes in On3’s NIL 100 rankings, tying Texas for the third-most representatives among all schools. Only Miami, with seven athletes, and Tennessee, with six, placed more players on the prestigious list. The rankings showcase Kentucky’s growing ability to compete nationally in the NIL era and attract some of the country’s best talent.

For head coach Mark Pope, Momcilovic’s commitment represents more than simply adding another talented scorer. It signals that Kentucky remains one of the premier destinations in college basketball despite the rapidly changing landscape of recruiting. The Wildcats have shown they are fully prepared to compete with any program in the country for elite transfers and future stars.

Momcilovic will now enter the 2026-27 season carrying enormous expectations, but his résumé suggests he is ready for the challenge. With elite shooting, proven production, and one of the largest confirmed NIL deals in college sports, he has all the tools to become one of the faces of college basketball. If he performs as expected, Kentucky could once again find itself among the leading contenders for a national championship.

The combination of a $6 million confirmed NIL deal, a proven record of elite performance, and a roster built to compete at the highest level makes Milan Momcilovic one of the most fascinating players to watch this season. As college athletics continues to evolve, his story serves as another example of how NIL has transformed recruiting, player movement, and the future of college basketball, with Kentucky firmly positioned at the center of that evolution.
