Kentucky basketball continues to strengthen its future under head coach Mark Pope, and one of the Wildcats’ biggest recruiting priorities has quickly become one of the fastest-rising prospects in the Class of 2027. Dynamic point guard Cayden Daughtry has emerged as one of the nation’s most exciting young talents after an outstanding summer, placing himself firmly on the radar of college basketball’s premier programs.
Standing at 6-foot-2, Daughtry has proven that elite playmaking, leadership, and relentless competitiveness matter far more than size. His remarkable performances across multiple elite events have elevated his reputation nationwide, making him one of the hottest recruiting targets in the country.
Ranked No. 9 overall in the 2027 class by 247Sports, Daughtry has generated serious momentum thanks to his consistent excellence. Recruiting analysts believe he has the talent and trajectory to climb even higher in the national rankings before his high school career is complete.
Kentucky’s coaching staff recognized that potential early. The Wildcats extended Daughtry a scholarship offer in May and have continued evaluating him throughout the summer while building a strong relationship with both the talented guard and his family.
Daughtry has earned widespread praise for his impressive performances in every major setting. At the prestigious NBPA Top 100 Camp, he showcased his complete offensive arsenal against many of the nation’s top prospects. He averaged 13.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game, while knocking down 38 percent of his three-point attempts, earning First-Team All-Camp honors.
His outstanding summer didn’t stop there.
Representing USA Basketball at the FIBA Under-17 World Cup in Türkiye, Daughtry played a key role in helping Team USA capture another gold medal. Throughout the tournament, he displayed exceptional court vision, confident shooting, and poise beyond his years, averaging 11.7 points, 4.7 assists, and 3.4 rebounds while shooting an outstanding 45 percent from beyond the arc. Team USA dominated the competition, winning all seven games by nearly 50 points per contest.
On the Nike EYBL circuit, Daughtry has arguably been even more impressive.
Playing for the Florida Rebels, he entered the prestigious Peach Jam averaging an EYBL-leading 25.6 points per game while also ranking among the league leaders with 6.0 assists per contest. During the Las Vegas EYBL session, where Kentucky coaches were in attendance, Daughtry elevated his game even further, averaging 32.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.3 steals across three games while converting an incredible 73.2 percent of his two-point field-goal attempts.
Those numbers reflect far more than scoring ability. Daughtry has demonstrated outstanding decision-making, defensive effort, and leadership, helping position the Florida Rebels as one of the favorites to capture the Peach Jam championship.
Despite the growing attention surrounding his scoring, Daughtry believes his biggest strength extends beyond putting points on the scoreboard.
He prides himself on leading teammates, making winning plays, and improving as a complete floor general. His increasing assist numbers throughout the summer highlight his commitment to becoming a true point guard capable of controlling every aspect of the game.
Kentucky is far from alone in pursuing the gifted prospect. Several powerhouse programs remain heavily involved in his recruitment, including Florida, Louisville, Iowa, Connecticut, Michigan, and Miami. Official visits are beginning to take shape, and Daughtry is expected to narrow his list after the Peach Jam tournament concludes.
Still, Kentucky appears well positioned thanks to the relationships being established by Pope’s coaching staff.
Assistant coach Mo Williams has become one of Daughtry’s primary contacts throughout the recruiting process. Williams, a former NBA standout who enjoyed a successful 13-year professional career after starring at Alabama, has connected with Daughtry by discussing the similarities in their games and offering guidance based on firsthand experience at basketball’s highest level.
For a young point guard with NBA aspirations, learning from someone who has successfully navigated that path carries tremendous value. Daughtry has spoken positively about Williams’ credibility and believes receiving advice from someone with professional experience adds significant weight to every conversation.
As Mark Pope continues assembling the future of Kentucky basketball, recruiting elite guards capable of thriving in his fast-paced offensive system remains a top priority. Daughtry’s ability to score from all three levels, distribute the basketball, stretch defenses with consistent perimeter shooting, and compete relentlessly on both ends makes him an ideal fit for the Wildcats’ vision.
While no commitment appears imminent, Kentucky has successfully positioned itself among the leading contenders in one of the nation’s most competitive recruiting battles. The Wildcats will continue investing time and effort into building relationships as Daughtry moves closer to making one of the biggest decisions of his basketball career.
If his remarkable summer is any indication, Cayden Daughtry’s national rise is only beginning. And should Mark Pope ultimately secure his commitment, Kentucky could be adding one of the brightest young stars in the 2027 recruiting class to its future backcourt.
