SANCHEZ BECOMES MLB’S FIRST 15-GAME WINNER AS PHILLIES ROLL PAST NATIONALS IN DOMINANT 7-3 VICTORY

The Philadelphia Phillies continued their impressive run of form on Thursday night, powering past the Washington Nationals with a convincing 7-3 victory at Citizens Bank Park. The win marked Philadelphia’s fifth triumph in its last six games and was highlighted by another brilliant outing from left-hander Cristopher Sanchez, who became the first pitcher in Major League Baseball to reach 15 victories this season.

Sanchez once again demonstrated why he has become one of the league’s most dependable starters. Mixing command, composure and an effective arsenal of pitches, the All-Star kept Washington’s lineup under control while receiving plenty of offensive support from a Phillies lineup that produced 16 hits and an astonishing eight doubles.

The victory further strengthened Philadelphia’s momentum as the club continues to chase postseason positioning. Every part of the lineup contributed, with timely hitting and aggressive baserunning helping the Phillies pull away early and never look back.

Philadelphia wasted little time putting pressure on Nationals starter Miles Mikolas. In the opening inning, newly acquired Luis Arraez continued to make an immediate impact in a Phillies uniform by ripping an RBI double to drive home the game’s first run. Moments later, Alec Bohm followed with another run-scoring double, giving the Phillies a quick 2-0 advantage and energizing the home crowd.

Washington managed to answer with a run, but Philadelphia responded immediately in the second inning. J.T. Realmuto reached base and was driven home by rookie Justin Crawford, whose sharp single extended the lead to 3-1. Crawford’s continued development has provided another spark to an already dangerous lineup, and his confidence at the plate continues to grow with each opportunity.

The Phillies effectively put the game out of reach in the third inning with another offensive explosion. Bryce Harper ignited the rally with a run-scoring double before Brandon Marsh followed with another extra-base hit to bring home another run. Bryson Stott capped the inning with his first RBI double of the night, stretching the lead to 6-1 and forcing the Nationals to play catch-up for the remainder of the contest.

Stott enjoyed one of his strongest offensive performances of the season, collecting two doubles and consistently putting pressure on Washington’s pitching staff. Harper also continued his productive stretch at the plate, while Marsh, Bohm and Arraez each delivered important hits that kept the Phillies in complete control.

Philadelphia’s relentless attack never allowed Mikolas to settle into a rhythm. The veteran right-hander surrendered six earned runs on 12 hits over five innings, falling to 3-9 on the season. Although he entered the game coming off an unusual highlight—recording an RBI squeeze bunt as a pinch hitter in the 11th inning of Wednesday night’s victory, his first plate appearance since 2021—he was unable to carry that momentum onto the mound against one of baseball’s hottest offenses.

The Phillies continued adding pressure throughout the evening, finishing with 16 hits while repeatedly finding the gaps. Their eight doubles showcased both their aggressive approach and ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities. Every inning seemed to feature another quality at-bat, keeping the Nationals’ pitching staff under constant stress.

Meanwhile, Sanchez calmly handled his responsibilities on the mound. Whenever Washington threatened to build momentum, the left-hander responded with key pitches to escape trouble. His consistency has become a defining characteristic throughout the season, and reaching the 15-win mark before any other pitcher in the majors further emphasizes the remarkable campaign he is putting together.

Beyond the individual milestone, Sanchez’s success reflects the strength of Philadelphia’s starting rotation. With the postseason race intensifying, having an ace capable of delivering quality outings every fifth day gives the Phillies a tremendous advantage. His confidence, durability and command have made him one of the National League’s most valuable pitchers.

For Philadelphia, Thursday’s victory represented more than another number in the win column. It demonstrated the club’s balanced formula for success: dominant starting pitching, timely offense and contributions from throughout the lineup. Newcomers such as Arraez have blended seamlessly with established stars like Harper, Bohm and Realmuto, while younger players like Crawford continue to make meaningful contributions.

The Nationals showed flashes of competitiveness but struggled to match Philadelphia’s offensive firepower. Despite managing three runs, Washington could not overcome the early deficit created by the Phillies’ barrage of doubles and consistent run production.

As the regular season moves into a critical stretch, the Phillies appear to be hitting their stride at exactly the right time. Their offense is producing consistently, the pitching staff continues to excel, and confidence is growing with each victory. If Sanchez maintains his current form and the lineup continues delivering performances like Thursday night’s, Philadelphia will remain one of the most dangerous contenders in baseball.

With another complete team effort and a historic milestone for their ace, the Phillies sent a strong message to the rest of the league: they are playing winning baseball and showing every sign of being built for a deep postseason run.
