Throughout the offseason, one of the biggest storylines surrounding Kentucky basketball has been the potential sophomore leap of Malachi Moreno.
After an impressive freshman season, Moreno faced a major decision this summer. The talented big man had legitimate NBA interest and was projected by several mock drafts as a potential first-round selection. With his name continuing to appear among some of the top prospects available, Moreno had a difficult choice to make: begin his professional career or return to Lexington for another season with the Kentucky Wildcats.
Ultimately, Moreno chose the latter.

For Moreno, however, the moment was about much more than basketball.
The rise of name, image and likeness opportunities has dramatically changed college athletics. Players who previously had limited opportunities to benefit financially from their success can now earn money through NIL agreements and other opportunities.
For a player of Moreno’s talent and profile, those opportunities can be significant.
While the exact details of Moreno’s NIL earnings are not publicly known, there is little doubt that his decision to return to Kentucky came with considerable financial opportunities.
