LEEDS UNITED’S PATH TO RAFAEL LEAO DEAL BECOMES CLEARER AS AL HILAL TRANSFER DOOR CLOSES

Leeds United could be ready to make another push for Rafael Leao as the summer transfer window enters its final days, with one of the major clubs linked with the AC Milan forward reportedly no longer in the race.

Leao has emerged as one of the most exciting names connected with a potential move to Elland Road this summer. The Portugal international would represent a statement signing for Daniel Farke and could provide Leeds with another high-level attacking option ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

For much of the summer, however, a move has remained difficult to predict. Leeds have been linked with Leao, but there has been no indication that the Whites have formally placed an offer on the table. At the same time, several clubs across Europe have reportedly explored the possibility of signing the talented winger.

With only days remaining before the transfer window closes, the situation could change quickly.

LEAO REPORTEDLY TURNS DOWN AL HILAL

One of the biggest potential obstacles to a Leeds move appears to have been removed after Leao reportedly rejected an approach from Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal.

According to Calciomercato, Al Hilal presented the forward with what was described as a “super offer.” Given the financial power of Saudi clubs, their interest was always expected to pose a significant threat to European teams hoping to sign the 27-year-old.

However, the report claims Leao has decided against making the move.

Importantly, the decision reportedly has little to do with the financial terms of the proposal. Instead, Leao is said to be uninterested in playing in the Saudi Arabian league at this stage of his career.

That could be significant for Leeds.

While the Whites still face strong competition for his signature, the rejection of Al Hilal removes a financially powerful suitor from the equation. Leeds would therefore have one fewer major obstacle to overcome if they decide to make a serious approach.

LEEDS STILL HAVE PLENTY OF WORK TO DO

Despite the encouraging development, Leeds cannot assume that Leao is heading to West Yorkshire.

There is reportedly no concrete offer from Leeds at this stage, meaning the club would need to move quickly if Farke and the recruitment team decide that the Portuguese star is their priority.

Leao’s quality is obvious. He has established himself as one of Europe’s most dangerous attacking players during his time with Milan, combining pace, creativity and individual ability. His arrival would give Leeds another player capable of changing games from wide areas and could significantly increase the attacking threat available to Farke.

However, the competition remains strong.

Calciomercato reports that Aston Villa and Galatasaray are currently among the clubs leading the race, while Tottenham Hotspur are also believed to retain an interest.

That makes the final days of the window particularly important for Leeds.

LEAO’S MILAN FUTURE REMAINS UNCERTAIN

Another factor potentially working in Leeds’ favour is the uncertainty surrounding Leao’s future at AC Milan.

Reports in Italy have suggested that the player and club are both prepared for a separation this summer. Leao was not involved in Milan’s Serie A opener against Torino last Sunday and had not featured for the club since a pre-season meeting with Chelsea earlier this month.

His absence naturally increased speculation that a transfer could be imminent.

However, the situation has now developed again.

Calciomercato reports that Leao has returned to first-team training with Milan and could be available for selection under Ruben Amorim for the upcoming clash with Venezia.

That does not necessarily mean a transfer is off the table.

Instead, Leao is reportedly continuing to wait for clarity over his next destination while his representatives work on finding a solution.

WHY LEEDS COULD STILL MAKE A MOVE

For Leeds, the situation provides a potentially clearer route to the player than existed previously.

The Whites may not currently be favourites, and there is still a considerable amount of work required to turn reported interest into an agreement. Yet with Al Hilal apparently ruled out and Leao’s Milan future remaining uncertain, the door has not been closed.

Leeds have shown ambition since returning to the Premier League, and signing a player of Leao’s calibre would underline their desire to establish themselves at the highest level.

The biggest question is whether they are prepared to act quickly enough.

With the transfer deadline approaching, Leeds cannot afford to spend too much time waiting for the situation to develop. If they genuinely believe Leao can transform their attack, they may need to make their intentions clear soon.

For now, the race remains wide open. Aston Villa, Galatasaray and Tottenham are all reportedly interested, while Milan’s position continues to evolve.

But Al Hilal’s apparent exit could make the path slightly clearer for Leeds.

If the Whites are serious about Rafael Leao, the final days of the transfer window could be crucial. One thing is certain: with the Portuguese forward still waiting for a resolution, Leeds’ opportunity has not disappeared just yet.
