Nottingham Forest have stepped up their efforts to strengthen on the right flank by submitting a package worth up to £22 million for Crystal Palace wing-back Daniel Munoz, with the Colombian emerging as a major target for manager Oliver Glasner.
According to the New York Times, Forest have put forward an initial £20 million fee with a further £2 million available in add-ons. Palace are now considering the proposal as Forest look to add another proven Premier League performer to their squad.
The potential move would carry an intriguing storyline, with Munoz potentially reuniting with Glasner at the City Ground. The pair developed a strong working relationship during Glasner’s time at Selhurst Park, with Munoz playing an important role in Palace’s impressive rise under the Austrian coach.
Glasner departed Crystal Palace at the end of last season, but his appreciation of Munoz’s qualities appears to have remained. The Forest boss has been searching for greater depth and quality at right wing-back, and Munoz’s experience, attacking ability and familiarity with Glasner’s system could make him an attractive addition.
Forest have already explored alternative options in the position. The club have held discussions regarding Celta Vigo’s Javi Rueda, but the pursuit of Munoz suggests Forest are prepared to make a significant investment in an established player who could immediately compete for a starting role.
The need for reinforcement has become increasingly clear during the opening weeks of the campaign. Ola Aina has started Forest’s first two matches at right wing-back, but both games ended in home defeats to Leeds United. With Forest aiming to make significant progress under Glasner, strengthening the position could now be viewed as an important priority.
Munoz’s availability, however, may depend on Crystal Palace’s willingness to sell. The 30-year-old still has two years remaining on the contract he extended in April last year, giving Palace a strong negotiating position.
The Eagles also appear to have prepared for increased competition on the right side of their squad. Palace signed Anan Khalaili from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in a deal worth £21 million this summer, potentially giving the club additional options should Munoz eventually leave.
Munoz has been one of Palace’s most important players since arriving from Genk in January 2024. The club paid approximately €8.1 million, or £6.9 million, for his services, and he quickly established himself as an energetic and influential presence on the right.
Since moving to England, Munoz has made 109 appearances for Palace. During that time, he has been part of one of the most successful periods in the club’s recent history, helping the Eagles win the FA Cup during the 2024-25 season before contributing to their UEFA Conference League triumph in 2025-26.
His performances have also strengthened his position with the Colombian national team. Munoz has earned 51 international caps and featured five times for Colombia at the World Cup earlier this summer.
His attacking contribution and ability to operate effectively as a wing-back make him particularly suited to a system that demands width and energy from the wide areas. Those characteristics could make him an ideal fit for the football Glasner wants Forest to play.
For Forest, the proposed deal would represent another major statement of ambition during an increasingly active summer transfer window. The club have already completed five notable additions, including Liam Delap, Ousmane Diomande, Gustavo Sa, Xaver Schlager and Steven Benda.
Delap’s arrival from Chelsea was especially significant, with the deal reportedly worth up to £50 million including add-ons and becoming a club-record transfer.
The investment underlines Forest’s determination to build a squad capable of competing at a higher level. Adding Munoz would continue that strategy by bringing Premier League experience and a player already familiar with Glasner’s methods.
There is also an obvious appeal in reuniting a manager with a player who previously thrived under his leadership. Munoz understands Glasner’s demands, while Glasner knows exactly what the Colombian can offer.
The next step will depend on Palace’s response to Forest’s £22 million proposal. Should the Eagles decide to negotiate, Forest could have a realistic opportunity to bring Munoz to the City Ground.
For now, the bid represents a clear indication that Forest are serious about upgrading their right wing-back position. With the season already underway and early results providing pressure for improvement, the potential arrival of Munoz could give Glasner another experienced option as he looks to turn Forest’s ambitions into results.
