Tarik Muharemovic once again delivered a composed performance for Bosnia & Herzegovina, earning praise from Bosnian media after helping his country secure a 1-1 draw against Sweden on Friday night.
The Leeds United centre-back was tested throughout the contest in Zenica as Sweden enjoyed long spells of possession and created several dangerous attacking opportunities. However, Muharemovic remained an important presence in Bosnia’s defensive line and played his part in ensuring his side stayed within touching distance of the visitors.
Sweden eventually broke the deadlock in the 61st minute when Viktor Gyokeres found the back of the net. With Sweden controlling much of the attacking play, the goal appeared to put Graham Potter’s side on course for a valuable away victory.
Bosnia, however, responded strongly.
The hosts began to push forward with greater urgency in search of an equaliser, and their persistence was rewarded in the 80th minute when Juventus youngster Kerim Alajbegovic scored his third international goal.
The late equaliser sparked celebrations in Zenica and ensured Bosnia collected a point from a difficult encounter.
For Muharemovic, it was another encouraging international appearance and further evidence of his growing importance to the national team.
MUHAREMOVIC EARNS MORE PRAISE FROM BOSNIAN MEDIA
Although the Leeds defender was not flawless, his overall contribution was viewed positively by Bosnian media.
SOP gave Muharemovic a rating of 6.8, describing his performance as solid despite the pressure applied by Sweden’s attack.
The outlet noted that Muharemovic and Nikola Katic “did a good job in the back line,” while also acknowledging that Sweden managed to cause problems for Bosnia’s defence at various stages.
That assessment was reflected in the defender’s numbers.
According to Sofascore, Muharemovic recorded seven defensive contributions, including four clearances, one blocked shot and two recoveries. He also won two of his three ground duels and two of his three aerial duels.
One area that will likely frustrate the defender was his tackling record, as he failed to win either of the two tackles he attempted.
Nevertheless, one particularly important statistic stood out: Muharemovic was not dribbled past during the match.
He also completed 91 per cent of his passes, the best passing accuracy recorded by any player on the pitch.
Those numbers underline how composed the Leeds defender remained despite Sweden’s sustained pressure.
BOSNIAN MEDIA HIGHLIGHT KEY DEFENSIVE INTERVENTION
One moment in particular caught the attention of Klix during its live commentary.
Shortly before half-time, Sweden’s Alexander Bernhardsson appeared to be charging into a dangerous position, only for Muharemovic to step across and prevent the attack from developing.
Klix praised the intervention, describing Bernhardsson as being on an “unstoppable run” before Muharemovic produced an excellent reaction to halt the Swedish attack.
It was precisely the type of defensive intervention that has helped Muharemovic establish himself as an increasingly trusted option for Bosnia.
The 21-year-old has also benefited from his move to Leeds, where he has continued to develop his reputation after arriving from Sassuolo.
His performances for Bosnia are particularly significant because international football provides another opportunity for him to demonstrate his ability against experienced attackers and under intense pressure.
Friday’s display may not have been spectacular, but it was another mature showing from a defender whose stock continues to rise.
MUHAREMOVIC CONFIDENT AHEAD OF POLAND CLASH
After the match, Muharemovic spoke to the media and made it clear that Bosnia are already looking ahead to their next challenge.
Bosnia’s final match of the international break comes on Monday night when they host Poland in Zenica.
Poland will arrive with confidence after recording a convincing 6-0 victory over Romania on Friday, but Muharemovic believes Bosnia can finish the international window with a win.
“We should be very happy and focused on what we are doing, we should continue like that. We have a new game on Monday and we are going to win,” he told Oslobodjenje.
His confidence reflects the belief within the Bosnia squad after recovering from a difficult position against Sweden.
For Muharemovic, Monday’s meeting with Poland represents another opportunity to build on what has been a promising international period.
CAPTAINCY DREAM REMAINS IN MUHAREMOVIC’S SIGHTS
The Leeds defender was also asked whether he has ambitions of eventually becoming captain of Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Muharemovic admitted that wearing the armband would be a major personal achievement, although he insisted that his immediate priority remains representing his country.
“There are enough players here, Sead Kolasinac is our captain. It’s a big dream of mine, but the most important thing for me is to play for Bosnia & Herzegovina,” he said.
That response highlights the defender’s growing ambition while maintaining his focus on contributing to the national team.
With another international fixture against Poland approaching, Muharemovic will now look to produce another assured performance and help Bosnia build momentum.
For Leeds United supporters, his latest display will also be encouraging. Muharemovic continues to gain valuable experience at international level, and his ability to handle pressure against quality opposition could prove increasingly important as his club career develops.
The draw with Sweden may not have produced a victory for Bosnia, but Muharemovic once again showed why he is becoming an increasingly important figure for both club and country.
