Tumbling Down: LSU Lady Tigers Fall in AP Poll After Texas Takedown

On Sunday Afternoon, the LSU Lady Tigers suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Texas Longhorns despite holding as big as a 12 point lead late in the game. The loss was crushing for two main reasons, the loss most likely will keep LSU from having a chance at the SEC Regular Season Title, and it’ll knock LSU down in the race for a Top Seed in the NCAA Tournament this Spring.

As a result of the loss, LSU was certainly going to move down in the AP Poll but, thanks to a chaotic week in Women’s College Basketball the slide wasn’t all that bad as the Tigers.

The Lady Tigers and South Carolina each drop two places in the AP Poll while UConn and USC both jump up two places after massive wins over South Carolina and UCLA respectively.

The good news for LSU is that the Tigers remain on the same seed line that the NCAA Tournament committee had them on during Sunday Morning’s NCAA Tournament Top 16 reveal as a Two Seed. The Tigers would have to do some serious damage to their resume to fall to a three seed as North Carolina is 94 points behind LSU.

The bad news for LSU is that losses to Texas and South Carolina limit how far LSU can move up in the rankings unless they avenge either loss in the SEC Tournament. The Tigers will have a few chances to improve their resume ahead of the SEC Tournament with matchups against 14th ranked Kentucky and 18th ranked Alabama but, both wins likely won’t be enough to vault LSU to where it needs to be to become a one seed making the SEC Tournament very important for the Tigers.
