Auburn fans haven’t had much to get excited about when it comes to their former players shining at the NFL level in most recent years with a few key exceptions. One of those bright shining exceptions has been former Tigers star cornerback Carlton Davis, and he finally got his big NFL payday amid the free agency frenzy on Monday.Carlton Davis was of course drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers back in 2018, signed a decent contract worth up to $15 million per year after his rookie contract expired, but then was traded to the Lions prior to the start of the 2024 season. Now as of Monday afternoon, Davis will be heading to join the New England Patriots after signing a three-year deal worth $60 million dollars.
This new contract will increase Davis’ potential annual earnings by more than 30% and make him one of this Top 10 highest paid cornerbacks in the NFL (at least for now). Davis has consistently been one of the best zone coverage cornerbacks who could pick his spots in man coverage to add value with his aggression. He’ll be the perfect fit as the exact kind of cornerback new Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel loves. home

Auburn has sent plenty of great defensive backs to the NFL over the years, but this contract extension certainly puts Carlton Davis near the top of the list for greatest cornerbacks in program history. And it’s not just about his pro performance either.
Many Auburn fans will remember that he was a Freshman All-SEC and All-American for the Tigers back in 2015. Then in 2017, he won First Team All-SEC and All-American honors thanks to his incredible contributions with a dozen passes defended in what was a special 10-2 regular season performance for the Auburn Tigers, including a win over Alabama in the Iron Bowl.
Carlton Davis already has nearly 400 career tackles, 11 interceptions, 10 forced fumbles and recoveries, and almost 90 passes defended throughout his NFL career. He won Super Bowl LV with the Buccaneers. Now he likely has at least three more years with the New England Patriots to continue building on his phenomenal legacy. Wish you the best Carlton. Keep representing Auburn well.
