ON THE MEND Aubrey Plaza hobbles on crutches as she leaves NYC hotel after tearing her ACL during WNBA All-Star weekend

The White Lotus star tore her ACL in July while playing basketball during the WNBA All-Star weekend. 

On Wednesday, Aubrey, 40, kept a low profile as she traversed the New York City streets, with the assistance of two large metal crutches, in a black crew neck sweater and jeans.

The Parks and Recreation alum paired the sweater with a tan jacket and a bright orange, WNBA logo baseball cap.

She completed the afternoon outfit with dark sunglasses and a pair of Mary Jane flats, one worn with a sock and the other without.

In July, CBS reported that Aubrey suffered a torn ACL while playing knockout at the Phoenix Mercury’s practice facility before the WNBA All-Star game. 

Often, a torn ACL – which is notoriously painful – requires surgery to repair.

The knee injury didn’t stop Aubrey from attending the game, as the actor was seen sitting courtside during the Saturday, July 20 broadcast.

The Ingrid Goes West star had an ice wrap on her knee, which was covered by a towel with the Gatorade logo.

Sports commentator Ryan Ruocco revealed news of the injury during the game, stating “I feel for Aubrey Plaza,” over the loudspeakers inside the Phoenix stadium.

“She came this weekend with a healthy knee. She’s leaving with a torn ACL, thanks to a hardy game of knockout at the Mercury practice facility,” he continued.

Aubrey sat beside soccer legend Megan Rapinoe and her significant other, ex-basketball player, Sue Bird.

Sue was even seen helping to adjust Aubrey’s ice pack during the game.

The retired basketball player’s former team, the Seattle Storm, posted a video of Sue assisting Aubrey on X, formally Twitter with the caption, “The GOAT lending a helping hand to Aubrey Plaza.”

This is not the first time Aubrey has had a torn ACL.

On Friday, the actress appeared on Megan and Sue’s podcast, A Touch More, and revealed that she has suffered the same injury before.

The first time she did was during a women’s recreation league in Los Angeles in 2016.

Aubrey revealed that she disguised herself to play on the same team as her sister, Natalie. 

“And then, in the middle of the game, I went up for a shot and tore my ACL on the court in a wig,” Aubrey shared.

“That’s kind of like the worst-case scenario because I was trying to go undercover, and I just snapped my knee in half, basically.” 

Aubrey posted about the injury on her Instagram on the Sunday after the WNBA All-Star game.

“@wnba ALL STAR WEEKEND. How it started…how it went… Nothing can stop us!” she wrote.

“Thank you @wnba for hosting such an amazing weekend and taking such good care of me and my busted knee. Such a great game. See you in Paris (no).” 

The first photo showed Aubrey stretching, lying on the ground as she stretched her legs up above her head.

The next photo displayed her sitting on a bench with ice on her knee.

However, a few hours later, Aubrey was picture-ready as she snapped a photo from the front row of the game. 

Comedian and actor Jason Sudeikis was also in attendance, posing with Aubrey while they took a pic with Seattle Storm forward, Nneka Ogwumike.
