The Los Angeles Lakers are about to undergo a very intriguing season, one that has championship aspirations, but also one that could bring on a ton of change with questions surrounding Lebron James. Evan Mobley’s agent just stirred some drama about Evan Mobley needing a bigger role, and Cleveland seems to be coming to a fork in the road, which we will discuss.
Here’s why the Lakers could trade Lebron James to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Donovan Mitchell.
Donovan Mitchell to the Lakers Trade Proposal
Cleveland Cavaliers Receive: F Lebron James, G Austin Reaves, G Bronny James, 2028 First Round Pick
Los Angeles Lakers Receive: G Donovan Mitchell, C Jarrett Allen, G Craig Porter Jr
LeBron James is undeniably aging, and there’s no getting around that fact. While he’s a guaranteed future Hall of Famer and moving on from him would certainly raise eyebrows within the Lakers organization, such a decision could be beneficial for both parties. The Lakers now have a rising superstar in Luka Dončić, and their focus should shift toward building a championship-caliber team around him.
As skilled as Dončić is, he can’t carry the offensive load alone—especially deep into the playoffs. Los Angeles currently lacks a consistent second scoring option, and addressing that need is crucial.
Acquiring a high-level talent like Donovan Mitchell could be the blockbuster move that elevates them above the rest of the Western Conference.
Teaming Dončić with Mitchell would be a nightmare for opposing defenses, as both are elite offensive threats capable of taking over games.
Mitchell is coming off a season where he posted averages of 24.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game. His scoring prowess combined with solid on-ball defense and disruptive defensive instincts would provide a major boost to the Lakers on both ends of the floor. He has previously expressed interest in playing in a major market, and Los Angeles offers both the star power and city appeal that could make it an ideal destination for him.
As for Cleveland, losing a player of Mitchell’s caliber would certainly be tough. However, with free agency looming and no guarantee he’ll re-sign, it may be wiser to explore trade options rather than risk losing him for nothing.
Evan Mobley Drama With Donovan Mitchell?
Just today, Evan Mobley’s agent has stirred some drama with a quote about him and Donovan Mitchell:
“I hope I don’t say this the wrong way, but I think there were a lot of times last year where if the focal point would’ve changed in certain matchups, they could’ve been looking at a different playoff run. But I understand Donovan Mitchell is a perennial All-Star. But it’s like how it was with Kobe [Bryant]. He can let Shaq do his thing, and then it’s his time later. It’s about finding that balance where this kid [Mobley] just scored 16 [points] in the first half against Indiana, and we didn’t see him in the second half and the game got away from them.
A lot of that is also on Evan where Evan has to make himself more visible, whether that’s getting bigger or being a little more vocal. Don’t disrupt chemistry. Those guys get along exceptionally well. They have great chemistry. So I’m not saying to do that. But in certain moments, he can remind them that they have a 6-foot-11 unicorn as well so let’s make sure they take full advantage of that.” This may just be a small bump, but regardless, there is a sense that if this core can’t get it done this season in the Eastern Conference, then it becomes clear that a major move may need to come.
