Five-star small forward Bryson Howard is set to announce his college commitment on Tuesday, Oct. 21, choosing between Duke, Kentucky, and North Carolina. Howard, the No. 1 player in Texas in the 2026 class per the 247Sports Composite, will reveal his decision at 4:30 p.m. ET. It will be streamed live on the CBS Sports College Basketball YouTube Channel.
A Frisco, Texas, native out of Heritage High School, the 6-foot-5, 188-pound wing has been on a remarkable rise through the recruiting ranks. He went from being unranked to now a five-star prospect and the No. 4 small forward in the 2026 class, ranked No. 12 nationally by the 247Sports Composite. Howard is the son of former NBA All-Star Josh Howard.
Howard’s recruitment has been closely followed by college basketball fans, with the 18-year-old having visited three of the country’s top programs. He was in Chapel Hill for an official visit on Sept. 5, Durham on Sept. 19, and Lexington on Oct. 4. His decision will give one of Duke, Kentucky, or North Carolina its first pledge in the 2026 recruiting cycle.
Per 247Sports’ Chad Lykins, Howard is predicted to commit to Jon Scheyer and the Blue Devils. Rivals’ Jamie Shaw also has Duke as the pick. However, it’s worth noting that Howard has been impressed with all three programs, and his final decision could go either way.
Howard’s versatility and athleticism make him a highly sought-after recruit. He is a long and athletic southpaw wing who changes the game on both ends of the floor. He attacks the rim in straight lines, getting downhill and absorbing contact with a physical style. Defensively, he’s engaged, excels with his court coverage, and has good playmaking metrics.
As the college basketball world waits with bated breath for Howard’s announcement, it’s clear that this talented young player has the potential to make a significant impact at the next level. Stay tuned for live updates and reaction to his decision.
