The North Carolina Tar Heels will begin to wrap up non-conference play with a showdown against Ohio State in Atlanta this weekend. From there, they will take on East Carolina before starting ACC play. But as the 2025-26 season goes on and the focus remains on winning a title, the future of the program is also something that is important.
North Carolina currently has one commitment for the 2026 class, landing four-star small forward Maximo Adams just a few months back. With there being a long ways to go, the Tar Heels really only have one big remaining target left on their board.
Five-star guard Dylan Mingo is North Carolina’s priority target right now and recently made his final list. The talented guard is down to UNC, Penn State, Baylor, and Washington. But is a decision on the horizon?
According to Adam Zagoria, Mingo could make his decision within three weeks and also revealed who potentially is in the lead for him right now.
The Tar Heels were the rumored favorites a few weeks ago after Mingo took his visit to Chapel Hill. There were even rumblings of him announcing a few weeks ago, which would have been a great sign. But now, he’s taking his time and ensuring he makes the right decision.
As it stands now, North Carolina probably should feel good about their chances. But it’s not over until the commitment and hopefully UNC can pull it out.
