A UNC basketball legend is taking on a new role in Chapel Hill

Welcome home, Marcus Ginyard!

Ginyard, a member of the UNC basketball program’s 2009 NCAA championship team, has been hired by the University of North Carolina as the Director of Special Projects. This role will have Ginyard jointly supporting leadership in the Offices of Public Affairs and Finance and Operations. Based on the press release released by Go Heels, here’s a bit of a description of what this new role will entail for the former captain of the UNC basketball program:

His (Ginyard’s) responsibilities include supporting the Secretary of the University in work with the Board of Trustees, coordinating Trustee special projects, representing the University at special events, and advancing pan-University initiatives in partnership with leaders across campus. Ginyard will also play a key role in community engagement and planning efforts for the future development of Carolina North, working closely with University and community partners to advance shared priorities.

With his prior experience in leadership roles (both on and off the basketball court) along with his strong knowledge of the University of North Carolina, Ginyard is simply a perfect fit for the job. One of the major parts of the above the description is that he’ll be part of the planning efforts to help guide future development plans for Carolina North, a rumored location for a potential new basketball arena for the Tar Heels.

Ginyard is another example of someone who genuinely loves the University of North Carolina. His experiences as a student-athlete at UNC were simply life-changing, as they put him in a position to succeed in all aspects of life.

Now, Ginyard returns home and will now look to make a significant impact on future Tar Heels who he hopes have the same type of special experience that he did while he was a student at the university.
