With the January transfer window fast approaching he’ll be hard at work sooner rather than later, with the Italian market naturally one of the biggest in Europe.

A lot of the focus is likely to be on Napoli midfielder Zielinski, who is yet to sign a new contract with the Italian champions. His contract is expiring next summer and is yet to be renewed.

That means he will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement from January 1st should he wish and there are likely to be several big clubs eyeing up a move, particularly in the Premier League.

He’s regularly been linked with a move to England over the last few years, with Liverpool known to be big admirers, and Di Carlo has revealed he could have made the move to Anfield.

“Given that the Zielinski deal seems easier to do for free, in June, than in January by paying him for the Italian clubs,” he said.
“However, we are talking about a player who could have gone to Liverpool two years ago. He has matured perfectly because of the right path he did: from Poland, to Udinese, with the move to Empoli, then Napoli where he arrived after becoming important in Friuli.

“He is a classy player about whom there is not much to say: that he plays at Napoli, Juventus, Inter or Milan, he is strong.”

Another player on the Reds list was Lazio’s Daichi Kamada, who Di Carlo has also insisted they were in for.

He joined the Italian side on a free transfer in the summer as his contract with Eintracht Frankfurt was coming to an end.

Kamada was linked with clubs all over Europe before he eventually ended up at Lazio, where he has struggled to replicate his best form so far.
