Alabama’s new 5-star recruit shows trend for Kalen DeBoer different from Nick Saban

The Alabama Crimson Tide is building a dynasty of tall receivers under coach Kalen DeBoer, and the latest commitment is a game-changer! Cederian Morgan, the No. 1 recruit in the state and No. 12 recruit in the 2026 class, has pledged his allegiance to the Tide. The five-star recruit stands at an impressive 6-foot-4, 210 pounds, joining a roster that’s already seeing a surge in tall receivers.

DeBoer’s offense has proven to be a launching pad for receivers, with Rome Odunze being a prime example. Under DeBoer’s guidance, Odunze caught 167 passes for 2,785 yards and 20 touchdowns over two seasons, earning him a spot as the ninth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Odunze’s success is a testament to DeBoer’s ability to mold talented receivers into elite players.

The Crimson Tide’s latest commitment continues a trend of tall receivers joining DeBoer’s team. With Odunze standing at 6-foot-3, 214 pounds, and Morgan at 6-foot-4, 210 pounds, it’s clear that DeBoer is looking for players with a certain build. In the past two recruiting classes, the average height of a receiver has been just under 6-foot-3, with some players standing as tall as 6-foot-4.

This is a noticeable increase from the last five years of receivers that Saban and company recruited via high schools and the transfer portal. The average height of a Saban-era receiver recruit was just over 6 feet, including the 2024 class. Saban hadn’t landed a receiver 6-foot-3 or taller since 2021, when Ja’Corey Brooks and Agiye Hall were listed at that height.

Under DeBoer’s leadership, Alabama is poised to dominate the receiving corps with its new breed of tall, talented players. With players like Isaiah Horton and Derek Meadows already on the roster, the Tide is building a formidable team. As the 2026 season approaches, all eyes will be on Cederian Morgan and the rest of the tall receivers joining DeBoer’s squad.

The future is bright for Alabama’s receiving corps, and it’s clear that DeBoer is on the right path. With his track record and the success of players like Odunze, the possibilities are endless. One thing is certain – Alabama’s receiving corps is about to get a whole lot taller and more talented! The Tide’s commitment to building a strong roster is evident, and it will be exciting to see how these talented players develop under DeBoer’s guidance.
