Former Premier League manager Alan Pardew has called for the Premier League to introduce a new rule giving players 10 minutes instead of sending off.The 62-year-old’s comments come after Saturday’s Merseyside derby saw Everton reduced to 10 men at half-time after Ashley Young received two yellow cards.
The Toffees defender failed to make an appeal after making two challenges on Liverpool winger Luis Diaz, but Pardew believes a ban would be a fitting punishment for the former Manchester United man.”I think it should take 10 minutes to get two yellow cards because two yellow cards don’t guarantee the same red,” Pardew said live on talkSPORT (as quoted by Goodison News). “If it was a situation where he was out, you can imagine he would have missed the period before the break and the period after.“I think it makes great television. It would be nice to see a guy on the bench for the game. You have to stick with that period, see it through to the end, and then when the time comes, a breakthrough will come. again. He paid his price.”TV will love it, sponsors will love it, stakeholders will love it and executives will think it’s more meaningful, so I think it’s a win-win.
