Trent Alexander-Arnold scores Liverpool’s winning goal against Fulham. Not many teams have a front line as good as Liverpool, but it wouldn’t be surprising to score four goals without a single striker.
A big part of that is Trent Alexander-Arnold. England may yet to find a suitable role for him, but Liverpool have no such problems.Given how much time he spends, there is a sense that he could or should be moved to midfield permanently.
I didn’t see him at all. At least since I saw him play officially in England. The service has been interrupted. There’s a difference between playing in midfield and playing in midfield, and Alexander-Arnold is fantastic when it comes to pulling it off.
It also seems like a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist. Alexander-Arnold is the perfect right-back for Jurgen Klopp’s side because he is more than just a right-back. There appears to be little reason to change this.
He was central to everything Liverpool did, so it was only fitting that he brought a brilliant conclusion to this very exciting game. While it’s no longer news, it’s still amazing to see a right-back dictating terms and managing a game from a theoretically unlikely starting position.
He may not have been credited with the first goal of the game, but this stunning free-kick was deflected off the bar and the hapless Bernd Leno opened the scoring. As if it was almost 400 years ago. The drama between them.
Second and winner after Wataru Endo won 3-3.Doubt about the winner was a very modern concern that VAR would spoil the match. Watching Alexander-Arnold tuck the ball home was just a small thrill of the moment. Because the first inevitable thought would have been a foul on Tsimikas.
Everything was fine. It wasn’t a foul, but it was just a mistake that VAR was concerned about. Of the many problems with VAR, this still tops the list. The mere threat of lurking in the background even when you’re doing nothing can make a great moment less great.
Future, Liverpool aren’t too worried about that. A winner was the obvious result after 90 minutes of entertaining play, but it was still very harsh treatment for Fulham after their performance on an entertaining Sunday.
The third goal, which had been threatening to give Fulham three points for some time, reminded us that the defenders still had the responsibility.
Tsimikas has done a good job as Andy Robertson in recent weeks, but has been guilty of making Bobby De Cordova-Reid’s job too easy. But it really helped us fight for the ball and get a big win.
Fortunately, from a legal point of view, we were able to save Liverpool’s Player of the Day and keep him at the top of Arsenal’s leaders.
