Alexander Arnold, Soboszlai, Robertson: Liverpool injuries and potential return dates


Liverpool is currently enjoying the Premier League and keeps the position at the top of the table. Manchester City closed the gap to two points with a 3-2 win over Newcastle United last weekend, while Aston Villa missed out on top spot with a 0-0 draw against Everton. Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool side have enjoyed a much-needed break.

They meet again at the AXA Training Center later this week before turning their attention to the trip to AFC Bournemouth on Sunday (16:30 GMT). Liverpool currently have a number of injured players and Klopp will be looking to bounce back and ensure their title run doesn’t hit a damper.
We’ll be bringing you the latest fitness news ahead of the Bournemouth match.

Dominic Szobozlei – Hip Hop
The midfielder missed the last two games in the 4-2 win against Newcastle on New Year’s Day. But Szoboslai said he was aiming for a comeback against Bournemouth, but would take it one step at a time. Possible second game: Bournemouth (A), Sunday 21 January.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – Knee
Liverpool’s vice-captain suffered a setback in the 2-0 FA Cup win against Arsenal and was ruled out for three weeks. This means Alexander-Arnold could miss the Reds’ next three games. Possible second leg: Chelsea (H), Wednesday 31 January

Andy Robertson – Shoulders
The left-back has not played for Liverpool since battling the problem while on duty in Scotland last October. Robertson is expected to return to team training later this month, but may need time to return to health. Potential return: February

Kostas Tsimikas
Another senior left-back on the treatment table, the Greece international missed the 1-1 draw with Arsenal on 23 December. Tsimikas was expected to be sidelined for a long time but has made good progress and is expected to return to training later this month. Potential return: February

Thiago Alcanata – Hip
The midfielder has been out of action at Liverpool for nearly nine months after undergoing hip surgery. Thiago suffered several setbacks during his recovery and will not be able to train again until next month. If so, a lot will depend on when he is ready to play.Potential return: February

Stefan Bajcetic
is going through some growing pains.Liverpool are taking a cautious approach with the 19-year-old midfielder given his age and do not want to make matters worse. Bajcetic is expected to return to training next month.Potential return: February

Joel Matip – Knee
The Reds defender tore his ACL in the 4-3 win over Fulham last month and required surgery. It is not known if Matip will play again this season.Potential return None

Ben Doak – Knee
The hot 18-year-old found himself in serious trouble when he was stabbed last month. Potential return: None

Mo Salah – Africa Cup of NationsLiverpool’s talisman will be hoping to lead Egypt to victory in Ivory Coast. Salah’s 97th-minute penalty earned the Pharaohs a 2-2 draw against Mozambique in the opening match. Salah’s return will depend on how far Egypt progress in the tournament.Potential return: February

Wataru Endo – Asian CupThe midfielder has had an excellent start to the season in Japan. He recorded an assist in a 4-2 win over Vietnam. The timing of his return is similar to Salah. Potential return: February.
