Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp broke the club’s injury news.Liverpool will look to maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League as they prepare to face Newcastle United on New Year’s Day. The Reds went top after beating Burnley on Boxing Day and remain top of their group after Arsenal lost 2-0 at West Ham on Thursday night.Liverpool remain in the title race despite the club’s injury list.

Andy Robertson and Alexis McAllister are both key players coming back from injury and Klopp gave an update on their recoveries in his press conference ahead of the visit of Newcastle.“Robo’s shoulder still needs more distance. “It was a big operation and not close to team training,” Klopp told a news conference. “He can still do a lot without the use of his right arm. That’s a good thing. But we still have a lot of work to do. Of course, it will be closer in January. Photos show Mac Allister will train with the first team today (Friday).

The Reds’ injury list includes defenders Joel Matip and Kostas Tsimikas, who have missed recent matches. But midfield duo Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Weissetic have been ruled out for long spells and the Liverpool manager has offered encouraging news about Thiago’s fitness as the 19-year-old struggles with a growing problem.
