United scored a last-gasp winner in extra-time to end the Reds’ hopes of winning a quadruple of trophies in what is Klopp’s final season as manager. Liverpool led twice in the game following Scott McTominay’s early opener and the match looked to be heading for penalties.

But the visitors won a corner in the 119th minute, throwing everyone but Conor Bradley for it in search of a winner. Instead, United broke, with Amad slotting into the far corner to leave Liverpool and Klopp shell-shocked.

The Reds boss then had to partake in his post-match media duties, with the defeat still stinging. And he took out his frustration on an interviewer from Viaplay, who asked why the Reds had an apparent lack of intensity in extra-time.

“It’s a bit of a stupid question, If you see us often, you can ask us the other times why we have so much energy. I don’t know how many games we’ve had recently and how many Manchester United have had. This is sport. I am very disappointed by that question, but you thought it was wise,” Klopp replied.

Klopp then began to make his way out of the interview area, as the reporter asked him if there were too many games. Klopp fumed in response: “Come on! You are obviously not in a great shape. I don’t have the nerve for this.”

The Liverpool boss continued to storm away and did not return to the Swedish broadcaster. He did complete his duties with English broadcaster ITV though, lamenting the late goal his side conceded to take a hammer to their quadruple hopes.

“We almost managed it in regular time, and then almost again in extra time. We lost, and it’s going well. I couldn’t ask for more. We have had a much more intensive season so far. Everyone knows that. You just have to count the number of matches. It was very, very difficult today,” Klopp said.
