Man United winger Antony scored a big goal in the context of his season on Sunday afternoon against Liverpool at Old Trafford
Manchester United winger Antony sent a clear message about his loyalties to the club after scoring the equaliser against Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-final.
United took the lead after just ten minutes thanks to Scott McTominay’s close-range effort. However, Erik ten Hag’s men fell asleep in the remainder of the half and went in at the interval behind.
Alexis Mac Allister fired home the equaliser before Mohamed Salah turned in a rebound in stoppage time to give the visitors the lead. The momentum appeared to be fully with Jurgen Klopp’s side as they pushed for a third but they were wasteful in possession.
This came back to bite them just before full-time as substitute Antony turned on the edge of the box and fired home to send the match to extra-time. It has been a difficult campaign for the Brazilian who registered just his second goal of the campaign with that late equaliser.
It was clear how much it meant to him as he wielded away in celebration tugging at his shirt in front of the Stretford End and pointing at his badge. It appeared he was gesturing to the fans about his love for the club but it was unclear what he was shouting.
Some critics have shed doubt on Antony’s future at Old Trafford in the summer after a poor campaign. The forward has not scored in the Premier League this season with his previous goal coming away at League Two Newport County in the fourth round.
