Two Rivals keen on Nico Williams
Liverpool could face competition from the Premier League to sign Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams. The Mirror reported last week that Liverpool are interested in the Spaniard despite signing a new contract in December.
Arsenal are also interested in the 21-year-old and Fabrizio Romano, who was booked for offside, suggested Chelsea could also be a possibility. Williams has been scouted by Arsenal “several times” in recent months as Mikel Arteta looks to add depth to his attack.
Despite the new deal, Mundo Deportivo report that Williams has a $54m (£43m/€50m) release clause, with Athletic Bilbao expected to be more interested in a summer move. The speedy winger has previously shown interest in Barcelona.
Williams has made over 100 appearances for Athletic Bilbao as a 21-year-old and could attract the attention of a number of clubs this summer. The La Liga side are hoping for interest and his release clause is relatively low for a player with potential.
A new striker may not be Liverpool’s priority, but Williams would be a logical target if any of their current options fall through.
