David Raya has spoken about the mood in Liverpool ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Anfield in the Premier League this weekend.
Mikel Arteta’s side are aiming to topple Arsenal at the top of the Premier League for the second consecutive year at Christmas, with the Gunners heading north at the top of the table.
However, Anfield has historically been one of the most difficult places for Arsenal to visit due to the pressure and atmosphere the north London side will experience.
And Raya stressed in an interview with the Evening Standard how difficult it will be for Arsenal to cope with the atmosphere, despite Gary Neville’s recent criticism of the noise made against Manchester United at Anfield.
Raya said: “Obviously this is a massive game for the top teams playing at home to Liverpool. As you said before, Anfield and the atmosphere are the same.
“This is the best game and we have to focus on ourselves, focus on the three points and make the most of it to get them.”
Liverpool must use Anfield as their secret weapon against Arsenal
Despite what Neville said about Liverpool’s stadium this weekend, Arsenal are no strangers to the pressure of the Anfield atmosphere. Last season, the Gunners won 2-0 at Anfield after a Trent Alexander-Arnold strike sent the home crowd into a frenzy and led Liverpool to victory in the match.
And if the Reds are to bounce back with a famous win over the Gunners, Liverpool fans will need to make Anfield as hostile as they have been this season.
Anfield is a legendary English stadium in every sense of the word, and if Liverpool fans make it an exciting game for north London on Saturday, Arsenal will be able to withstand the pressure.
