CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The Carolina men’s basketball program is adding veteran backcourt experience.
Angelo Brizzi, a 6-3 guard with 105 games of Division I experience, is joining the Tar Heels as a graduate student for the 2026-27 season, head coach Hubert Davis announced.
Brizzi comes to Chapel Hill after a standout final season at the University of Buffalo. He averaged a career-high 14.5 points per game while starting all 32 games for the Bulls in 2025-26. In Mid-American Conference play, his scoring jumped to nearly 16 points per contest. He reached double figures consistently and topped 20 points eight times, highlighted by a career-best 27-point performance against UMass.
Over the last four seasons, Brizzi has scored 878 career points and made 69 career starts. He’s scored in double figures 40 times and has proven to be a reliable perimeter threat, knocking down multiple three-pointers in 26 games. His best night from deep came last season when he hit 8 threes against South Alabama.
The Warrenton, Va. native brings a well-traveled background to Durham and Chapel Hill. Brizzi began his collegiate career at Villanova, where he signed and redshirted in 2021-22. From there he played one season at Davidson, followed by a season at Longwood, before finding a featured role at Buffalo this past year.
At 6-3, Brizzi gives UNC a mature, shot-making guard who can play both on and off the ball. He brings career averages that reflect both scoring and consistency, plus experience in the Big East, A-10, Big South, and MAC. That versatility should help him slot into Carolina’s guard rotation immediately.
“Brizzi has competed at a high level in multiple conferences and shown he can score and make plays,” Davis said. “We’re excited to add his experience, toughness, and shooting to our backcourt.” With one year of eligibility remaining, Brizzi will look to close out his college career in Carolina blue, adding depth and leadership to a Tar Heels team focused on competing for an ACC title in 2026-27.
